Who we are
Since 1990, the Sierra Nevada Review has been publishing daring new poetry, short fiction, literary nonfiction, and visual art from the shores of North Lake Tahoe. The SNR is edited and managed by the students in the low-residency creative writing MFA program at the University of Nevada, Reno-Tahoe (formerly Sierra Nevada University).
As of 2023, we’re excited to be a digital-only publication! We publish two original issues a year: the Spring Issue on March 1, and the Fall Issue on September 1. We’ll also occasionally open submissions for special features.
General Submissions for Fall Issue: March 1 – May 1
General Submissions for Spring Issue: October 1 – December 1
Submission response time may vary between a few days and several months.
For updates on opportunities outside of the general reading periods, follow us @sierranevadareview or send us an email.
What we Like
Our mission is to make space for writing that makes us feel alive, for urgent work that considers our present culture and explores relevant topics like art, consumerism, labor, resistance, diaspora, and the environment. We believe that all art is political. We’re partial to work with multiple facets of potential meaning that deepens upon rereading. Above all, we’re looking for strong voices and compelling narratives.
Send us your very best short fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. We typically do not accept genre fiction.
